HonAI: AI-enabled predictive stabilization and optimization of honey processing

Goal:

In the HonAI project, we aim to optimize Medex's honey syrup production process by integrating sensors and advanced software modules enhanced with AI models. By extracting key parameters and employing AI algorithms, we seek to enhance product quality, process stability, and production efficiency while minimizing energy consumption. This entails optimizing process efficiency and quality at bottlenecks and enhancing energy efficiency across the entire production process.

Challenges addressed:

With environmental and price pressures across the value chain, Medex needs to optimize its production in multiple areas. Traditional digital tools are insufficient to identify and exploit improvement potential in interconnected areas. Leveraging cutting-edge AI models and algorithms is essential to address these challenges effectively.

Opticum has been expanding its machine-building portfolio with complementary software solutions in recent years. Becoming one-stop-shop for our customers, increasing added value of our solutions. Opticum’s digital solutions are constructed from commercially available products amended by internally developed digital components that are integrated to meet customer needs.

Expected benefits:

The HonAI project deliver numerous benefits for Medex: including improved production quality consistency, enhanced traceability, reduced downtimes, increased energy efficiency, and better competence management.

Specific benefits include:

  • reducing unplanned downtimes,
  • eliminating lid-closure-related recalls,
  • enhancing traceability,
  • systematizing maintenance processes,
  • and reducing specific energy consumption by 10%.

Additionally, the project aims to enable sales growth, increase product quality and safety, and establish a foundation for long-term operational and sustainability improvements.

For Opticum, the benefits include establishing a comprehensive solution, enhancing competence, and enriching its digital solutions portfolio.
